How-To: Adobe Illustrator Colour & Print Guide (SPM - MacOS)

The following instructions explain how to configure Adobe Illustrator CS/CC on a computer using MacOS. Your screens and menus may differ depending on the version of software and operating system being used. However, the settings will be identical.


Illustrator Color Setup

  1. Open Adobe Illustrator. In the menu bar, click Edit > Color Settings.

  2. In the Color Settings window, set the settings as shown below, and click Save. You may need to click Show More to display all the options.

  3. Save the preset as Sawgrass 

  4. Click OK to close the Color Settings window.

  5. In the menu bar, click File > New

  6. In the New Document window, match the Advanced Options below.

    • Click the down arrow next to Advanced Options
    • Color Mode: RGB
    • Raster Effects: High (300 ppi)
    • Preview Mode: Default
    • Click OK to save your changes and continue
  1. When opening or importing images in Illustrator, you may encounter the following warnings.
    • For the Missing Profile instance (5a), select “Assign current working space: sRGB IEC61966-2.1” and click OK.

    • For the Embedded Profile Mismatch instance (5b), select “Convert document’s colors to the working space” and click OK.

  2. Previously saved files or imported files may retain their previous settings. To ensure that RGB color mode has been selected: In the menu bar, click File > Document Color Mode > RGB Color. A check mark should be visible beside RGB Color.



Illustrator Print Setup


With the correct color settings entered, you are now ready to print. There are two ways you can print from here.

    • Saving as a PDF into Sawgrass Smart Folder
    • Print Plugin

Saving as a PDF into Sawgrass Smart Folder 

  1.  In the menu bar, click File > Save As...
  2. Save the file in to the Sawgrass Smart Folder located by default on the desktop. Set the Format as PDF.

Print Plugin

  1. In the menu bar, click File > Print

  2. Select Setup...

  3. At the bottom of the Print Settings, click the PDF drop-down and select Sawgrass Print Manager from the list.

  4. The Print Manager Print Settings window will now open.
