System Disclaimer
Does It matter if I use something outside of these requirements?
- Yes. These minimum requirements will help you achieve consistent and high-quality prints. You could encounter the following if you are not meeting the minimum requirements:
- Print speeds may be longer and therefore less economical to run.
- Larger graphic files may not print properly or at all.
- The computer may time out during the processing of the print command.
- Graphic design programs may be much slower to use.
- Print spooling may not work properly because of lack of computer or printer memory capacity.
- Graphics may not print correctly--images may be cut off.
- Longer print times can lead to nozzle drops or banding.

Ink Disclaimer
All Sawgrass ink cartridges have a use by date on them. If the cartridge is used once this date has passed, the quality and consistency of prints cannot be guaranteed. We recommend that the cartridges be used within the first 6 months for best results.
- If you use the ink past the recommended use by dates, and all other troubleshooting steps have been taken, the old ink will need to be removed from the line before using new ink cartridges.
- If expired ink needs to be flushed from the lines, change the capping station assembly. A longstore should be performed to clear any expired ink from the ink lines.
- Using expired ink may cause damage to the print head, clog the capping station, create nozzle loss and may result in poor colour output.
- We recommend the VJ 628 be used several times per week. To keep the ink from thickening in the lines or drying out on the capping station or print head, it is advised that print jobs be performed daily.
- For the VJ 628 to perform its self-maintenance routines, the printer MUST BE LEFT POWERED ON. If the printer is left off, the ink will clog in the lines, capping station, and print head.
Supported Design Software
- Creative Studio
- Corel Draw (X6 and above)

- Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 and above
Supported File Types
- CorelDRAW and Adobe Creative Cloud: .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF

Recommended Media and Size
- Choose a high-quality sublimation paper.
- If the paper is heavily coated, it can produce a dust that can cause long term damage to many components of the printer.
- If the paper is too thin, the ink could bleed through and cause poor results when pressing. Sawgrass recommends Truepix paper to be used with the VJ628 for best results.

-
- Minimum roll width: 13in (330mm)
- Maximum roll width: 24.8in (630mm)

Installation Steps
** DO NOT INSTALL INK UNTIL INSTRUCTED BY THE SOFTWARE **
Hardware Installation:
- Check the area before installation for space and hazards.
- Confirm that the Start-Up kit contains the items listed above.
- Attach the take-up reel if present and place printer on stand (Both are optional)
- Remove the print head bracket. (This keeps the print head from moving during transit.)
- Ensure that all packaging and tape has been removed from the printer. There is also a small foam block on the carriage rail that needs to be removed.
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the printer and the router/computer. (Do not use a Cross Cable to connect the VJ628 to the router/computer)
- Set the correct voltage using the selector at the rear of the printer. This will vary depending on your location.
- Plug in and power on the printer.
Note: A detailed printer startup guide is included in the printer box.
Software Installation:
- Download and install SPM
- Once SPM is installed, start the driver installation process
- The Mutoh Startup Wizard will now load.
- Setup the printer using the steps above and connect it to your network.
- Search for the printer and assign it an IP Address. (Note: The default IP Address is set to 192.168.1.253)
- Install the Mutoh printer driver
- Install VSM and perform the initial ink charge.
- Load paper and perform nozzle check and alignments
Preparing a VJ628 for Shipping or Longstore Procedure:
- You will need x8 cleaning cartridges for the VJ628
- With the cleaning cartridges installed, click on the “Longstore” icon in VSM and follow the on-screen instructions.
- First, it is imperative that a Longstore procedure has been completed and the waste ink has been completely drained and reset.
- Secure the print head in place with the fixing plate.
- Package the printer (2 people will be required to lift the printer) in the same way it was received. Ensure all protective shipping material is properly placed and the printer is not able to shift around.
- Strapping the box down to a pallet will greatly reduce damage and will ensure the box is not placed on its side or upside down.
