Creating and Printing a PEPF File (Print to File)

A PEPF file contains the exact data a printer needs to reproduce a document. It acts as a “snapshot” of a print job, including both the image and the print settings. Its purpose is to store precise, printer-ready instructions so a job can be replicated exactly. This makes it especially useful for troubleshooting, as it helps determine whether an issue is caused by the software or the printer hardware.

How Can Printing a PEPF File Help?

As explained above, a PEPF file is primarily used to diagnose issues such as color inaccuracies or banding. By printing a controlled, known-good file, we can identify whether the problem lies in the printer or in the settings used to create the print job.

If our support team sends you a PEPF file to print:

  • If the printed PEPF file shows the same defects as your own prints, the issue is likely related to the printer hardware.

  • If the printed PEPF file prints correctly with no defects, the issue is likely related to the software settings or configuration.

If you send us a PEPF file and our support team prints it:

  • If our print shows the same defects that you are seeing, the issue is likely related to your software settings or configuration.

  • If our print does not show any defects, the issue is likely related to your printer hardware.
