Trouble Printing from Sawgrass Print Utility on macOS

The information below can help you resolve printing issues on macOS despite your printer showing 'Ready' status on the LCD panel.

Sawgrass Print Utility print job window is not appearing

If when using the Quick Print Folder, design tool, or Send to Sawgrass Print Utility to send files, the Sawgrass Print Utility window does not appear, please make sure that the application is running. You should see the Sawgrass Print Utility logo in the task bar as shown below. If it is not there, click on the Sawgrass Print Utility icon located in your Applications to start the program.

Nothing is being sent from the design tool to the Sawgrass Print Utility

If when printing from the design tool, the Sawgrass Print Utility window is not appearing after clicking 'Print File', please ensure that you allow popups in your web browser. The design tool uses a popup to then open and send your design to the Sawgrass Print Utility. If popups are blocked then no prints will be sent. Note that you should only need to allow popups once, your browser should then remember the selection and allow popups from MySawgrass moving forward.

  1. in the design tool, click Print File.

  2. The popup blocker icon may appear. This means that the required print window has been blocked by your browser.

  3. Click on the Pop-ups blocked icon and then set it to Always allow popups, then click Done.
Note that this example is in the Google Chrome browser, if you are using a different browser then your view may be slightly different, but still similar.

  4. The popup window will now appear. Tick always allow and click Open Sawgrass Sawgrass Print Utility. Allowing this will mean this window will not appear next time you print and instead will send your design directly to the Sawgrass Print Utility application without the need for any further interactions.

Also, as mentioned in the previous section, you need to make sure the Sawgrass Print Utility is running in order for the print job window to open.

Nothing is being sent to the Printer

If you've clicked print in the Sawgrass Print Utility application but nothing is being sent to the printer, it could be that there is a communication problem between your computer and the printer. As mentioned at the start, this article assumes that the printer is in a ready state with no errors present on the LCD panel.
Communication problems usually occur if the port has changed or if using via WiFi, a low signal strength causing the connection to drop. Port changes can happen if you've left your printer powered off, disconnected your USB cable, your router has been restarted or assigned a new IP address to your printer. This means that your computer no longer has the correct 'address' for your printer. The easiest way to correct this is to remove the printer and then reinstall it. The printer will then need to be re-added and in doing so, will have the correct address again.

If the printer is connected via WiFi, you can also check the signal strength in the printer menu: System Settings > Interface Settings > Wireless LAN> Wireless LAN Signal. A low signal strength can cause connection drop outs where the computer may briefly no longer 'see' your printer. We recommend a minimal signal strength of 75%. If the signal strength is below 75% then we recommend you move your printer closer to your wireless router or connect the printer via Ethernet cable (to your router) or USB (to your computer).

Removing the printer from your computer.

  1. Quit Sawgrass Print Utility
  2. Click Settings, then navigate to your Printers & Scanners. Note the path may be slightly different if using an older version of macOS.
  3. Select your printer and click the remove. The printer has now been removed and will need to be added again.

Adding the printer back on to your computer

  1. With the Printers & Scanners window still open, click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...

  2. Next, select your printer model and click Add.
  3. Once added, open Sawgrass Print Utility
  4. You may need to Rescan for devices in the Print Utility Settings.
  5. Do not forget to select your ink type once the device has been added again.

Ink type is not selected

Another reason why you may not be able to print is because you have not yet selected the ink type for you printer. The ink type will determine which print job settings are available to you. If the ink type is not set then these settings will be missing and you will not be able to print.

If the ink type is not selected you will be given the option to Choose Ink Type on the Print Job page

The print button will also be substituted with the message "Ink Type Required to Print"

You can also select the ink type via Settings > Devices.
