The print head position adjustment calibrates the alignment of the print heads to ensure colours are accurately overlaid and images are printed with maximum sharpness. If the print heads become slightly misaligned, you may notice blurred colours, vertically misaligned lines, or reduced print clarity.
This guide explains how to print the built-in Print Head Position Test Pattern, identify the correct adjustment values, and apply them to the printer. For the most accurate calibration, the test pattern should be printed and adjusted for each available print quality setting, including High Speed, Standard, and High Quality.
When reviewing the test pattern, select the square where the coloured lines overlap most accurately to form a single line. Entering the correct adjustment values will help restore proper print head alignment and improve overall print quality.
Important: Before performing a print head position adjustment, confirm that your printer has a complete nozzle check with no missing nozzles. If the nozzle check shows missing or broken nozzles, perform the appropriate print head maintenance before carrying out this calibration to ensure accurate results.

A test pattern to adjust print head positions is printed.
- To determine the adjustment value, select the square that is faintest (closest to white). Alternatively, select the square whose internal lines overlap to form a single color.
Combined two-color lines form squares, and depending on line overlapping, (white) spaces between the lines are painted and look darker. Sometimes the colors of the lines are identical.
For this illustration, the adjustment value is "-2". Checking adjustment values for each item is required.- If you cannot determine the adjustment value, select the square that is between the straightest lines.
Each vertical line is made of an upper part and lower part. If the print head is not properly positioned, the vertical line will be displayed as two disconnected lines, so that the line looks misaligned.
If you still cannot determine the adjustment value, locate the square that is between adjacent squares whose lines form symmetry. Adjacent squares can be one or two places either side (at positions ±1 or ±2).
This illustration indicates an adjustment value that is set to "-1".
- If you cannot determine the adjustment value, select the square that is between the straightest lines.
