Enabling Wireless Printing with a Wired Printer Connection

If you currently have a printer that is not equipped with wireless functionality, you do not need to have it connected via USB to your computer or wired to your modem/router.

There are various ways of rendering your printer "wireless" by connecting an ethernet or LAN cable from it to one of the following, to name a few:

  • Wireless Booster or Extender, equipped with an ethernet port.
  • Wireless Access Point.
  • Mini Wireless Printer Server.

In the example below we will be using a Wireless Extender that is equipped with an ethernet port. The setup of other similar devices will likely follow the same process.

  1. Plug the Wireless Extender into a wall socket that is closest to the printer.

  2. Connect the extender to your wireless network following the manufacturers instructions. Note that the placement of the Wireless Extender is important as it will use a power socket closest to the printer but must still have a strong signal strength when connected to your wireless network, if not drop outs may occur.

  3. With the printer powered off, connect the ethernet cable from the printer to the wireless extender and power the printer on. You may review the following article for help on connecting the LAN cable. How-To: Connecting your Printer via Ethernet or USB (SG500/1000) .

  4. In the printer menu, navigate to System Settings > Interface Settings > Network > LAN Type and ensure it is set to Ethernet.

  5. By restarting the printer, an IP address will be assigned to it and will signify that the printer is successfully connected to your network.

  6. You can now continue the printer driver installation via the Sawgrass Print Utility
