Option Tray Explained
The Option Tray is an additional tray that can be placed under the Main Tray (Tray 1).
Tray 2 refers to the first Option Tray installed directly beneath the printer, while Tray 3 refers to the second Option Tray and is installed beneath Tray 2. In other words, the trays stack on top of one another.
Its important to note that Tray 3 is only available on the SG500 and is not able to print small page sizes such as standard mug paper.
Why do I need a option tray?
The “option tray” is a practical attachment that allows you to print using different size media without the need to swap out the paper that is currently in the Main Tray. For example you may have mug size paper in your Main Tray and A4 or letter paper in the Option Tray.
What size paper can fit in my Option Tray?
SG500: Up to 8.5 x 14”/21.59 cm × 35.56 cm is the largest paper size you can fit in the option tray.
Minimum supported width: 105mm/4.1in.
Note: Standard mug paper falls below the minimum size requirements for the Option Tray.SG1000: Up to 11 x 17”/27.94 cm × 43.18 cm is the largest paper size you can fit in the option tray.
Minimum supported width: 105mm/4.1in
Note: Standard mug paper falls below the minimum size requirements for the Option Tray.
Tray Selection Warning Message
When the Option Tray is selected in Sawgrass Print Utility and an unsupported paper size is chosen, a message will appear notifying you that:
"The selected tray is not compatible with the selected paper size. Output tray has been changed to match the paper size."
However, if you already have an unsupported paper size selected—such as the standard mug size—the Option Tray will be unavailable. It will appear greyed out and cannot be selected until a compatible paper size is chosen.
As shown below, the Option Tray remains disabled and is not selectable.

Print Job Sending to the Main Tray Instead of the Option Tray
If your print job is being sent to the Main Tray instead of the selected Option Tray, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- The printer has not detected the Option Tray. In this case, ensure the relevant Option Tray is correctly installed and positioned, then restart the printer.
- The Option Tray has not been enabled in the printer driver settings. Please refer to the sections Adding the Option Tray to Windows or Adding the Option Tray to macOS for instructions on enabling it under the printer driver accessories/options.
