How-To: Perform a Head Clean (SG500/1000)

Print head cleaning is a built-in maintenance function designed to clear clogged or partially blocked nozzles by drawing ink through the print head. If your prints show missing lines, gaps, or an incomplete nozzle check pattern, performing a print head cleaning can often restore normal print quality.

This guide explains how to initiate a print head cleaning directly from the printer's control panel. You can choose to clean Head 1 (Cyan and Black), Head 2 (Yellow and Magenta), or All Heads, depending on which colours are affected.

For best results:

  • Print a nozzle check before performing a head cleaning to identify any missing nozzles.
  • Perform a maximum of five (5) head cleaning cycles, printing a new nozzle check after each cleaning to monitor any improvement.
  • Do not power off the printer while a head cleaning is in progress. If the cleaning cycle is interrupted, print a new nozzle check and restart the cleaning process if necessary.

Important: Print head cleaning consumes ink and should only be performed when required. A head cleaning cycle is also performed automatically whenever an ink cartridge is replaced.
