The paper feed adjustment allows you to fine-tune how the printer advances the media during printing. If the paper feed is not correctly calibrated, the printer may advance the paper too much or too little between print passes, resulting in visible print quality issues.
This article explains how to print the built-in Paper Feed Test Pattern, identify the optimal adjustment value, and apply it to the printer. Correctly adjusting the paper feed can help resolve issues such as:
- Horizontal banding or misaligned horizontal lines
- Patchy or uneven printed images
- Regularly spaced black or white lines across the print
After printing the test pattern, compare the adjustment values and select the value that produces the lightest gray square with straight horizontal lines on both sides.
Important: Perform this adjustment only after confirming that your printer has a good nozzle check and that the print heads are functioning correctly. If print quality issues persist after completing the paper feed adjustment, the cause may be unrelated to the paper feed calibration and additional troubleshooting may be required.

A test pattern to adjust paper feed is printed.
Check the optimal adjustment values on the printed test pattern.
The optimal adjustment value is the number that appears on the left of the lightest gray square with straight horizontal lines on both sides. When this number is "+2", the optimal adjustment value is "+2".
When horizontal lines beside the lightest gray square are broken, select the optimal adjustment value by referring to the lines broken in the opposite direction. When the "+2" square is the lightest gray square and the "+6" horizontal lines are broken in the opposite direction, the optimal adjustment value is between "+3" and "+5". After adjustment, check the adjustment result.

- If white streaks appear, decrease the adjustment value.
- Keep adjusting the value and executing "Adjustment" until the black or white streaks disappear.
